Abstract: The layer and its attributes depict the Oregon commercial nearshore hook and line fishing effort expressed as hook hours per 1x1 nautical mile grid block that make up the Nearshore Fishery from 2004 to 2021 (partial). The Oregon Nearshore Fishery fishes for the nearshore rockfish species complex, lingcod, cabezon, and greenlings using hook and line, longline, troll and pot gear over rocky and sandy ocean bottom in state and federal waters off the shore of Oregon between approximately 0 - 40 fathoms. The layer was developed by using the latitude and longitude of the centroids of each 1x1 nautical mile block that make up the nearshore fishery grid, converting to polygons, and summing hook hours per polygon. Fishery logbook data are recorded on standardized data sheets by fishermen during their fishing operations. The logbooks are later submitted to ODFW for data entry and processing. Because the data are recorded by many independent sources, ODFW cannot guarantee the accuracy of all logbook data. Purpose: This layer was developed for large-scale offshore wind energy development planning off of Oregon, and should be used for that purpose only. Use for offshore wind siting or other purposes would require additional analyses of the data.
